Famous Writers’ Report Cards

Repeat after me: "F as in Faulkner, C as in Camus..."

A glimpse at famous authors’ report cards helps us raise questions about school, assessment, and what college and career readiness means.

Anne Sexton got a C in high school literature.

e.e. cummings had 61 absences and got a C in English when he was in 5th grade.

Hemingway got a 75% in Latin and a 85% in chemistry. Unlike Sexton, he did score a 90% for the year in English class.
