Egypt’s Educational Gambit & What We Can Learn

I was struck by its heavy emphasis on equity and learning process

Egypt’s education minister just spoke hear at UNESCO’s Mobile Learning Week. It was stunning to hear what they are doing with their education system. As Dr. Tarek Shawky described, Egyptian education had fallen into disarray over decades. Instead of “fixing” it, they have begun starting over: newly defined knowledge and skills, devices for all (that is, all) teachers and students throughout the country, and a digital resource repository for higher education and K-12. He emphasized over and over that the previous model was perpetuating inequity and not focused on the process of learning. When they roll out their new model in September 2018, I will be watching eagerly–as will the rest of the world.
