The Etymology of “Lit” is Lit

Literature is lit, too, but that's for another time.

Lovers of quirky wordy things prepare to spend the next three minutes reading Merriam-Webster’s brief summary of the etymology of the expression “it’s lit.” For over a century, lit-ness has referred to drunkenness. More recently, hip-hop usage has expanded the term to refer more generally to contexts of revelry. Language is always changing, something we should embrace and celebrate.
