The Best Video About Data You’ll Likely See Today

The use of data in teaching and learning has increased dramatically over the last fifteen years. Driven in part by a rise in digital technologies as well as governmental faith in numbers over words, talking about data in schools often produces extreme reactions: quantitative converts or qualitative protesters. In 2007, Swedish academic Hans Rosling delivered a Ted Talk about what data tells us about the world, which was later converted into the even more engaging BBC segment I share here. It’s a sobering look at how data can be used to uncover different stories about the world. And for those who want more, Rosling released his co-authored book called Factfulness in which he argues that the data show just how much better the world is actually getting. I’m devouring it as we speak.
