What a Dead Simple Way to Add Writing to Math Class

It's a simple formula.

I struggled recently in trying to help a math team in Manhattan integrate writing into their practice. There was so much rich discussion, though. Students were frequently asked to demonstrate how they solve equations and to critique each other’s process. (Easy as pi, right?) The question was how to leverage their discussion to increase focused writing. The result is a variation of the Relay Write activity, but where students are provided a problem and asked to explain how they might try to solve it. Take it for a spin.
