When The Computer Fails, Read The Great Gatsby for 8 Hours!
"And so we beat on..."
It’s an 8 hour performance in which the actors perform Fitzgerald’s great novel: word for word. Not for everyone, but what an experience! I especially appreciated the opening scene. In it, an office worker (who later morphs into Nick Caraway) confronts a computer that won’t boot up. He tries resetting it, even calling IT. Frustrated, he finds a hidden copy of Gatsby in a Rolodex. And with that, the failure of the information system open the possibility for the imagination system. What a poignant reminder to us all.
