Watch How Children’s Vocabulary Grows
Why do cows outperform sheep? Let's see.
The more work I do at the intersection of education and technology, the more I am convinced that simple high-leverage applications are often the most useful. Take this example from Stanford, which offers a simple tool to explore the way children build their vocabulary over time, using data from 75,144 children and 82,983 child development administrations. What can we learn, for example, by tracing which animal sounds children speak first? What new questions does it raise about language, culture, and context?
