That Time the Supreme Court Had to Make States Provide Equal Education to All

So, a little over six decades ago, in 1954, the Supreme Court ruled that public schools in the United States had to provide integrated and equal education to all children, regardless of race.  The ruling is known as Brown v. Board of Education.  To be clear, the case was thought to be a long shot at the time, yet it was ruled unanimously to desegregate schools.  It didn’t happen immediately–and some could argue desegregation as not really happened much at all–but the court found a way to articulate what public education should be in spite of the fact that the US Constitution itself does not mention education at all.
