What if We Talk about College and CREATIVE Readiness Instead?
The president of Bennington College has the stage.
In the name of rigor and accountability, reforms that overemphasize career readiness and elaborate schemas of skill sets might actually be undoing the soul of education. According to college president Liz Coleman, we have allowed education to become learning “more and more about less and less.” Equally concerning, she argues, is what happens to the relationship between civic participation and the culture of education. This dry but wildly intelligent Ted Talk cuts to the core of why we educate our children, the most important question (in my mind) in education today.
