Schools do a lot of things. One of the things we expect them to do is to prepare children to get jobs. But, did you ever consider that focusing on economic needs, on getting jobs, might actually have a paradoxical effect? By narrowing the focus of school curricula to what is useful, we might actually be severely limiting children’s capacity for creativity, innovation, and civic mindedness.
